Groundnut or Arachida peanut

A nutritious nut, produced in the region of Bournias in the Municipality of Kalamata and in other regions of Messinia.

The fruit is collected and peeled and then used as a pure nut , raw or roasted.

It is put for sale in its natural form with the shell or without it. The nuts can be baked without any salt in a residential oven, but their raw consumption is preferable.

Rich in “good” fats, both monounsaturated and polyunsaturated. It is also a good source of fat-soluble vitamins (E, A), and vitamin B1, B2, B3, B6, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium and zinc.

It contains twice the amount of plant sterols in comparison with other nuts, acting protectively to heart health.

Due to being the most common food allergy in children and adults, it is best to be careful when put in the daily diet.

Since they consist a rich source of fat, a small handful of peanuts as an intermediate meal, along with a fruit or 2-3 dried figs seems satisfying enough until your next meal!
